Size Guide

How to measure your head

We prefer that you measure your head in centimeters because it tends to be more accurate than inches. Measure several times to ensure accuracy.

step 1

To measure your head size where your hat will sit, gather a cloth measuring tape or a simple string.

step 2

Start at the back of your head by gently wrapping the measuring tape or string towards your forehead a half inch (temple area) above your ears. Meet both ends of the measuring tape or string at the center of your forehead above the eyebrows.

step 3

Mark where those two points meet and measure the distance between the start and end points. If using a string, measure the start and end points against a ruler to find your hat size. Use this measurement to determine your hat size. Hat sizes vary by style, so be sure to check the unique fit for each.

Why Hats Aren't Just for Fashion: 6 Health Benefits Unveiled

Sara Brady | April 24, 2023

Hats have been an essential accessory in human history, serving various purposes such as protection from the elements, ceremonial traditions, and, of course, as a fashion statement. However, a hat is more than just a way to express your personal style or protect yourself from the sun or cold.

Headwear can provide numerous health benefits, some of which may surprise you. In this post, we will delve into the health benefits of hats, from UV protection to stress reduction and everything in between.

1. UV Protection

One of the primary health benefits of using a hat, particularly during the sunny months, is that it provides protection from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV radiation can cause skin cancer, sunburn, and premature aging.

According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, and wearing a hat with a wide brim can significantly reduce the risk of skin cancer by shading the face, neck, and ears.

When choosing a hat for sun protection, opt for one with a wide brim (at least three inches), made of tightly woven materials like cotton or straw. Some hats even come with a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating, which can give you an idea of how well the hat will protect your skin from UV rays.

2. Temperature Regulation

A hat can help regulate your body temperature, especially during extreme weather conditions. In cold weather, a hat can prevent heat loss from the head, which is essential as the human body loses most of its heat from the head. This is particularly important for those who enjoy outdoor activities during the winter months or live in colder climates.

During hot weather, a hat can protect your head from the sun's heat and help prevent heatstroke. Some hats are designed with breathable materials and vents to allow air circulation, keeping your head cool and comfortable.

3. Hair and Scalp Protection

Headwear can protect your hair and scalp from various environmental factors. Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause your hair to become dry, brittle, and discolored. Using a hat can shield your hair from the sun's damaging rays, preserving its natural moisture and color.

Additionally, hats can protect your scalp from pollutants and allergens in the air, which can cause irritation, inflammation, and even hair loss. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with sensitive skin or scalp conditions, such as psoriasis or eczema.

4. Eye Protection

Hats with brims can also protect your eyes from the sun's harsh glare. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can increase the risk of developing cataracts and macular degeneration. By wearing a hat with a brim, you can significantly reduce the amount of UV radiation that reaches your eyes, reducing the risk of eye damage and promoting better eye health.

5. Stress Reduction

Believe it or not, headwear helps reduce stress levels. Some individuals find comfort and security in using a hat, similar to the feeling of being swaddled in a blanket. This sense of security can help reduce anxiety and stress, promoting a sense of calm and relaxation.

Moreover, certain types of hats, such as weighted hats or hats with built-in headphones, can provide additional stress-reducing benefits. Weighted hats can provide gentle pressure on the head, similar to the effects of deep pressure therapy, while hats with built-in headphones allow you to listen to calming music or meditation tracks discreetly.

Conclusion

Incorporating hats into your daily wardrobe not only adds a fashionable flair to your outfits but also provides numerous health benefits. From protecting your skin, hair, and eyes to promoting overall mental well-being, a stylish hat is an investment in your health. So why not grab your favorite wide-brimmed hat or trendy baseball cap and enjoy the many health benefits that come with wearing one?
